What Is a Statement of Use Extension?
A Statement of Use extension is a request filed with the USPTO for more time before you have to show your trademark is being used in commerce. It matters most if you filed on an intent-to-use basis. This means you told the USPTO you planned to use the mark, but aren’t selling under it yet.
Without an extension, an intent-to-use application can be abandoned once its deadline passes and no Statement of Use has been filed. The extension keeps that application alive while you get your product or service ready to launch.

The USPTO grants Statement of Use extensions in six-month blocks. If your trademark still isn’t in use once one extension runs out, you can request another, as long as each request goes in on time and meets USPTO requirements.
Each extension carries its own separate USPTO filing fee. And once a deadline passes without a filed extension or Statement of Use, the option to extend is gone. There’s no requesting one after the fact.
